This work particularly clearly reveals one of the artist's key qualities: the ability to transform movement into a state, and gesture into a sign. The figure not only acts in space, but seems to hold the boundary between the mundane and the sacred, between human presence and symbolic image.
Vecchio's sculpture is characterized by moments of interrupted movement, when the form retains the tension and internal energy of a climactic gesture. In "Shaman," this technique takes on a special semantic load. The raised hand, the ritual attribute, and the large circle behind the figure, reminiscent of a solar disk or a sign of initiation, create an image of an action that simultaneously occurs here and belongs to another dimension. The sculpture is constructed not as a mundane scene, but as a sculptural formula of transition, invocation, and inner concentration. A distinctive feature of his work, noted in the gallery's artist's note—an emphasis on interrupted movement—is particularly effective here.
In Vecchio's artistic world, mythology is one of the consistent themes, alongside dance, musicians, portraits, and images of the world's peoples. Therefore, "Shaman" is perceived as a logical continuation of his signature themes. However, it's important that the artist does not illustrate myth. He is interested in the very possibility of conveying a state of dedication, inner power, and spiritual connection with the world of signs through plastic means. In this work, the figure is composed, elongated, and rhythmically organized, thereby conveying the entire image as a vehicle not of a narrative but of an inner function.
Compositionally, "Shaman" is distinguished by the clarity of its silhouette and the iconic expressiveness of its details. The vertical line of the figure is combined with a circle extending beyond it, and this connection imbues the work with a unique architectural harmony. As in other works by Vecchio, the decorative element here does not contradict the depth of meaning. On the contrary, the stylization enhances the image, allowing it to be read simultaneously as a figure, a symbol, and a ritual sign.
