"The Wall" reveals a state of inner resistance, in which restraint becomes a form of strength.
In this work, one senses composure, a silent tension, and that state in which a person holds themselves back from within. The image resonates like an inner monologue: I will endure. This is precisely why the sculpture is perceived so poignantly. It speaks of a boundary, of an inner limit, of the ability to maintain one’s form under the pressure of time and circumstances.
For Arsen Avetissian, it is not external action that is particularly important, but the inner density of the image. His sculptural style is built on the clarity of the silhouette, the precision of the lines and the psychological richness of the form.
In "The Wall", these qualities are particularly evident. The figure seems to be gathered around its inner centre and is therefore perceived not as a static mass, but as a state of restraint. There is almost no random movement here. The entire work is governed a sense of inner restraint and a restrained yet very powerful energy. The title itself dictates the precise way of interpreting the work. The wall in this piece is not merely a barrier, but also an image of inner defence, support, a boundary beyond which the spirit’s personal space is preserved. Arsen Avetisyan translates this state into a plastic language without directness. The sculpture does not merely illustrate an obstacle, but allows one to sense how human fortitude is formed, how character acquires substance, and how silence becomes expressive.
