‘ A Boy Sitting under the Bodhi Tree’ reveals a state of concentration in which silence becomes an inner anchor. This work exudes peace, clarity and deep composure. The image seems to say: I am within the light. This is precisely why the sculpture has such a profound effect. It holds the viewer’s gaze not through external movement, but through a state of inner silence, in which maturity, balance and spiritual measure are already present.
For Andrei Ostashov, the theme of the inner journey is particularly important. His sculpture combines Eastern contemplation, mythopoetic thinking and the clarity of academic form. The gallery has previously noted in his artistic world the fusion of reality and myth, the old and the new, East and West. In this work, these qualities are expressed with particular clarity. The figure does not merely sit at rest, but maintains a state of profound attention, in which the human presence becomes almost a meditative symbol.
The very image of the Bodhi tree lends the work significant depth of meaning. It is not only a natural motif, but also a symbol of enlightenment, inner insight and spiritual awakening.
Ostashov translates this theme into a restrained and noble visual language. The sculpture does not seek to be narrative. It is constructed as an image of an inner vertical, as a state in which silence becomes a form of knowledge and tranquillity a form of strength.
Compositionally, the work is characterised by a clear monumentality. Despite its considerable height, the figure retains an inner composure and the gentle integrity of its silhouette. Thanks to this, the work comes across not as an illustration of a spiritual theme, but as an independent sculptural image of contemplation and inner maturity.
